I have a Trek 1500 from that time period which is an identical frame to the 2000. It was a warranty replacement for an '87 1500. I also had the original '87 fork (different from '88) replaced under warranty before that. I also know of a person who had 5 early ('86-'87) 2000 frames replaced under warranty. I was racing and putting in heavy mileage back in '85-'90 and less so since then, so I don't know if they fixed the problems by '88 or I have just been easier on the bike since then. The frame rides nicely and is reasonably light (3.5-3.8? lbs). It will have 126 mm rear spacing. I wouldn't pay over about $200 because I'm not sure about the reliability.
