|I've been more or less lurking for awhile now, but find myself in RMR's situation....economy has forced me to move to San Diego for work (yeah, I know, terrible). I was hoping for a little info about riding & racing here. I've gotten a list of races in So Cal, but I'd appreciate any info on good group rides, and thoughts on teams around here that would be good for a novice racer (I raced last year as Cat 5, and will upgrade when I renew this year).
Feel free to email me with any info you might have:

|I've run into SDBC at many races. I remember seeing lots of Ranchos too, I think it's a women, or mainly female team. Have fun out there. Racin' in SoCal is truly tough.|

|SDBC is a fairly large club, with a lot of masters riders. They do have a lot of structure in the team which is good. Ranchos is based in North County San Diego (i.e 'burbs) and is not only a womens team, it's coed.
Squadra Ovest is a fairly small club that is just starting out in San Diego. I run the club and I can tell you we have several advantages over the larger clubs. Feel free to ride with us this Saturday. We are meeting at SDSU on Campanile and heading East for a long ride. I'm planning on doing 85 miles. Visit our website at www.squadrasf.com.

|Squadra's a cool new little team here in SD. They just spread here from San Francisco where they're a lot bigger. I live in north county but have just joined them. I felt that Rancho's and SDBC were rather big, unapproachable entities for a new rider.
Funny that you call Rancho's an all femaile team - I'm sure they'll love that!
Where in SD are you living? How much racing experience do you have?

|I'm currently down in Pacific Beach. I've got a few friends that were living here, so just found a place to rent nearby.
As far as racing, I've been racing mnt bikes, on & off, for about 7 years. But I just started road racing last year. Have about 10 races under my belt, plus about a dozen week-night crits. Pretty much mid-packer right now, but have pulled a win in a crit & some top-5 in RR.
I want to try a few Cat V races out here before moving up to IV....figure I'll just do that when I re-new my licence.

|Thanks for the info. I wasn't in town last weekend, as I'm in the midst of moving the rest of my stuff from Phoenix. Are there any more group rides scheduled the next few weekends? I'd like to come out and ride with the group....sounds like this might be a good club for me.
You can email me direct with ride info....firstname.lastname@example.org
(although, guess I'll have to change the name...)
