|Upgrading?||Long way out|

|I was looking at the 2004 USCF rules and their upgrade chart. The chart list requirements for events to be counted towards upgrading. Example under Cat 4 to 3 it says a Road race should be 25 miles, crit 20 miles, field 30. So What does this mean? Does an event have meet just one of these requirements or does it have to meet both the distance and field requirement?|

|Don't worry too much about it. Stick it on your resume, let them sort it out come time.|

|The rules require that the race satisfy all the requirements. OTOH: The district rep. is the one making the upgrade decisions. I recently used quite a few non-qualifying races to upgrade to 3. I did cat. 4 crits that were only 15 miles. I can't control that. I understand why they have the requirements. You have to earn your upgrade. Then again, shouldn't all cat. 4 races at least satisfy the time/distance requirements? These were actual races, not some mid-week training race.
Anyway, the decision is made by the rep. and probably has a lot to do with the availablity of "Qualifying" races in your area. The rep. may be more strict in a area where there are a half-dozen races to choose from each weekend.
