Anyone out there ever raced the Tour of the gila? I have always wanted to do the race. What can you tell me about terrain, weather, accomidations, and orginization?

I've done it several times. It's a great event. Silver City is a small town and the town really gets behind the race. The race is at 6000+ ft. and there is a lot of climbing and some great descents. I think the organization is well above average. They have limited host housing and people I know who've used it have liked it. There is professional neutral support for the upper categories and at least 3 support vehicles with neutral wheels for the others. Now that the race has moved from June to May, the weather is pretty good. Cool in the morning rising to 70's or 80's during the day. I'd check the course profile and choose gearing accordingly. It's not a good idea to show up with a 21.
