I want to go to europe next summer, france or italy most likely and I want to know how things work?
To race do you have to be on a club/team?
How do you get on a club?
Will I need anything besides an international racing license?
Where do I look for club information online?

I would really like suggestions aswell as stories and experiences.

I'm not to sure about Itlay but depending if you are amature you will more then likely not need a license. I'm now in Bosnia and have raced bikes here, in Serbia, and Germany. I am with a club that licensed me and did all of that registration stuff. It does not matter which part of Europe you are in, Western or Eastern Europe, Cycling is huge. Much more popular then in the states and EVERY town has at least a couple of bike shops that has someone there that speaks english and will be more then willing to help out. That has been my experience so far. Have fun!!!

the level of riding is high and the racers intense.great bike roads connecting towns and cities for travel via bike, this is the best secret. that is my only advice.

To race in the FFC (USCF's counterpart), you must be registered to a french club (race registration is 2 weks in advance, no later!) or have an international elite licence -- and since elite races are on invitation, you must therefore be invited. A local club can pull strings and try to get you on, but it is not easy nor straightforward. Let me know if you are interested in racing in the Paris area and I will see what my club can do -- at what level do you race?

A+
