It's the middle of September and I am in reflection mode! Even though the racing season ended in July for me, I'm still learning quite a bit from the season. One thing that is going to be a big focus for me this winter to take into next season is to RELAX! I'm one of these guys who just can't shut his freakin' mind off! Constantly thinking about this, about that, everything. At night, when I go to bed, even if I am exhausted from a great ride, it takes me at least an hour to fall asleep because my mind just keeps going and going. It has always been this way for me. However it is something I really want to address this winter because I feel it really affected my racing this year (first year of racing).

My goal is not just learn how to relax my mind when I go to bed so I can fall asleep faster, but to be able to relax my mind on race day and on the start line. One of the things my new coach is talking about with me is learning to relax at races saying "it's just a bike race," that I need that energy that I am wasting for the race.

So, I wanted to ask the board what, if any relaxation techniques you use? When do you use them? I'm riding with my coach tomorrow, and I plan on this being a major topic of our discussions, but there are a lot of very experienced and knowledgeable folks here that I would really appreciate hearing from.
