How Gu's it?(2 posts)

How Gu's it?hrv

I've found that over the course of my extremely short racing career that I do well with a shot of Gu during the final stretches of a crit/road race. I've finally reached my breaking point however for sticky hands/legs/bike parts (I use the packet in the shorts' leg deal). Any alternatives for a delivery system? Anyone use the flask? Is the mount for it sturdy? Easy to get in and out quickly? Gel/liquid stuff is the only thing I seem to be able to ingest without too much effort during these intense efforts.

Thanks,
hrv

ps. Anyone who replies "Just use it before the race" will be promptly escorted to the gutter!

I have the same problem. I can't digest powerbars while riding..found that out the hard way a few years ago.

I use a flask for my gels and find it very easy to use. Can't help you with the mount. Don't know if I would use the stem mount either as that is where a lot of my sweat ends up. I keep my flask in the left side jersey pocket and find it much easier to use than trying to open up a package while riding. Just like using a water bottle and I use my teeth to open and close the nozzle. When I put it back, I make sure to put the nozzle down so the gel moves towards the nozzle so when you back for a second dose, it's ready to go.
