When do most people stop eating before a race? And what do you like to eat so you do not get any weird feelings half way into the race?

2-3 hours for a meal to digest is the typical recommendation, obviously depends a bit on the meal size and contents, as well as your own metabolism. You can supplement right up to the start of the race with energy drinks (including Coca Cola). What someone else likes may not be at all appropriate for you. Focus on complex carbs with a bit of protein and fat. Whole grains will give a slower burn than white flour and sugar. If a race is going to start out super fast, like a crit or time trial, you will need more time to digest than for a road race, which typically gives racers some warmup time before things get intense.
