Well I did the Crit with the 180 degree turn and cobblestones. So here is the Cat 5 race report. I got to the crit with good time. My race didn't start until 1:00, so I got a good warm-up(both on a teammate's trainer and on the course). So my time to race comes up with the chance of rain looming. I made it to the start line and got a good position near the front. Mistake#1, Never lineup behind a Cat 5 racer who is having a hard time clipping in at the start. Next time I go around him,grrr. From that point on my race became a bad race for me. I almost went down due to Mistake #1, which let the group get a good gap on me. So I decided to chase the pack down for most of the crit . That not to mention the headwind in the straightaway. I manage to stay upright ,until mistake#2. Mistake#2, Never follow the Cat 5 flyer into a 180 degree turn. So you can guess that I went down in the 180 degree turn right behind the Cat5 flyer,road rash. So I got pulled before the finish . But overall all the crit was a learning experience. Right know I am taking my time to heal up from the road rash I have from the Cat 5 Crit.

my advice is to get 10 solid races under your belt and Cat-up before you or your bike are damaged beyond repair.

I don't know. I've only been able to do two pure Cat5 races so far. Everybody's stayed upright in all of them. I did one 35+ race and the riders there weren't any bettar at holding their lines. Most of the races I've done have been combined 4/5. I have a hard time telling the differenec between the two classes of riders when they are together. Thats' been my experience albiet pretty limited since this is my first year and I won't get 10 races iin to cat up anyway. I was sacred stiff to ride a crit in the "crash" 5s
and now that I've done a couple, I'm not so scared. I do try to ride at the front though. Mike
