|Cat 5 License good for age group race?||roaddog|

|What are the license requirements for the
age group races? Will a new Cat 5 license
allow one to compete in the age group?
(For example the 50+ masters.) Or is there
a specific USCF license for masters groups?

|I believe that you need a Cat 4 license or higher to race in any of the Masters races. All it takes is experience in 10 mass start races to upgrage to 4.|

|Masters championships require a Cat 3 license. I've raced local masters races as a 5 and then a 4.
Now, is that smart? Probably not. The "open" masters racers are really, really fast. Don't let the age fool you. These guys are hard core former pros and good 1's and 2's who will clean your clock, and usually with very organized team tactics.
You are probably better off in a 35+ 4/5 race (ideally), or just a 5 or Senior 4/5 race at first. You can race open, but it will probably result in more pain and getting dropped more quickly, unless you are much faster than the average beginning racer.

|I could be wrong, but I don't remember any catagory requirements for masters races, except the national championships. Cat 4, Masters 50+, and the Open Women's races are roughly at the same speed, with exceptions.
Masters 50+ races are a lot safer the Cat 5 races.
|I believe the promoter can set the requirements. I know that||bill|

|we've had some races around here where you had to be a Cat 4 or better to do the age-graded races. I can't tell you which ones, but I don't think that they were all championship races.|

|In New Jersey it seems to vary by race. The State Masters were age grouped, any USCF license was sufficient (i.e. you could race with a cat5 license). The Spring series I just finished restricted the 35+ master's race to cat4 and better.|

|In Florida As long as you meet the age req. and have a license (not a one-day) you can race masters.
I was 2 starts away from being a 4 and wanted to race 4's and the promoter wouldn't let me but he would let me race Masters 35+ So I raced with 1/2 & 3's there was one 4 in the race. The winner was Kent Bostic. So go figure, you can't race 4's but you can ride with the big boys.
