|So I've had three races this season. To my surprise, I find myself in such a terrible condition, I could hardly hang on whereas last season I was cruising easily.
I couldn't push the hard gears, my spin is not smooth, and I don't have the punch when I accelerate. Basically, I suck! And my leg muscles look like they have been downsized.
Is this happening to anyone else? I did ride fixed-gear throughout the winter, very very easy gearing. Is this why I can't push the hard gears? My spin did not improve either.
Obviously this is not making me happy. Is this just natural, the early season form people were talking about? Anything I can do to get back to form, QUICK?

|and do intervals. the only way to get into form fast, afaik, is to suffer.
but you're not alone! my leg speed is still not quite back to normal. I can't spend as much time going fast as I used to. after an extended period of base training, this is normal. next winter I will throw in some speed workouts, once a week. and maybe throw a few sprints in here and there.

|Your personal feeling is normal. The fact that you are getting shelled suggests that some other racers were training harder during the winter. They may be candidates for the "flying in February, dying in July" phenomenon. Then again, they may just be faster than you :(|
