What do aero bars get you in a time trail? I am thinking about doing my a TT, my first, in a few weeks. Just wanted to get some info on them? Worth it? Any basic ones I can order on-line (they would be only going on a $600 road bike)?

They help if you do some training with them.

For me, they get around a 1 mph increase versus the drops. They are the single greatest speed improvement product you can use, far better than aero wheels, even.

However, the bike handling is different, ideally the position on the bike is a bit different, and you'll use some different muscles. So, you'll want to train on them, I'd say at least once a week to take full advantage.

There are all sorts you can buy on line. My current favorite is this set: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=Clip+On+TT+Bar&vendorCode=VISION&major=1&minor=15 Not the cheapest, but very low and comfy for me. Anything that fits will be better than without aerobars, likely. The cheapest I know of are these: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=Century+Aero+Bar&vendorCode=PROFILE&major=1&minor=15 I used them for about a year. They work fine.
