There is a stage race in the next county here that this year won't even run the pro/1/2 race because of so many road violations in the past. Here's part of the race flyer:

"This is a stage race of 2 days, 3 races for all riders listed below Category 3 start at Sharon TT, not at criterium. Note: No Sr 1/2/Pro event this year; too many road violations in 2002." http://www.velopromo.com/mdra-ent.htm

It's usually centerline violations that are the culprit. People just don't get it. Some authorities are just itching for a reason to ban these things; crossing the centerline and scaring the bejeezus out of some farmer on the way into town is not the way to win friends and influence people.

I could understand having too many centerline violations by the lower cats, but you would think that the big dogs would know better. I'm not sure how not letting them compete this year will fix the problem though. It sounds like they need better officiating to resolve the problem and disqualify those few who are screwing it up for the majority.
