Lindsey Wilson Cycling presents:

The Green River Road Race

Course Description:

Road Race: We are using the same course as the last two years. It is a 25 mile loop of fun, scenic, and challenging roads. From the staging area there will be a two mile controlled roll-out on highway 206. The course then turns right on to Vester road, a narrow, twisty country road with no lines, approx. 3 miles in length. Vester connects to Bull Run road with a right turn, and within 1/4 mile you will turn on to highway 551 with another right. The course follows 551 for approx. 8 miles, descending out of the community of Egypt, crossing Green River Lake, climbing out of the river valley, running an open ridge, and eventually dropping into the town of Knifley. The course turns right on to hwy 76 which creeps along the valley floor before a mile-long climb, which is followed by a screaming descent into the lowlands of the Green River Wildlife Management Area. The road remains in the bottoms along lily pad covered ponds and dark green swamplands for about 3 miles after the descent. At the intersection of hwy 206, the course turns right and once more crosses Green River. You will be on 206 for approx. 1/4 mile before turning right on to Little Cake road. It=s a beautiful ride through the Green River Wilderness Management Area with lots of short steep climbs before a punishing ascent (briefly 14%) that leads to a 2 mile, flat finishing stretch ending at Purdy Sano Baptist Church. Total length: 25 miles. Previous Men=s A winners finished in approx. 3:05.

I don't see how it could take 3 hours to ride a 25 mile course that isn't entirely uphill. Collegiate 'A' riders can do the Mt. Evans hillclimb (14 miles, almost all climbing) in about 2 hours. Considering that this course must have as much descending as ascending (it says it's a loop), I don't really see what's taking everybody so long. An average speed of 8mph for the winners? The course is either much longer than they believe, or their timers don't know how to work their watches.

I neglected to post that the C racers do 1 loop, the Bs 2, the As 3. so yes, there's much more pain and suffering than was implied in my original post.
that makes more sense nmDougSloan

truesport.com says it's on the 16th but the flyer says the 22nd. I guess I'll go with the flyer. What colleges are you all from? Anyone from UK?
