Rollers(4 posts)

Does anyone know roughly how much internal resistance roolers have? That is, riding on rollers is equivalent to riding on what grade? Is there a way I can calculate this for my particular set of rollers?

Thanks.

Roller resistance is highly variable from brand to brand and model to model. Plus, your tire inflation can have a huge effect. I'm not aware of anyone publishing data on roller resistance.

Someone at Kreitler might have some data. They developed rollers with smaller-then-normal drum diameters to increase resistance.

Even if you had numbers, not sure how you would differentiate between simulated "grade" and simulated "aerodynamic drag."

Interesting question.

This question would be something that Tom Compton at Analytic Cycling would be into: comptont@concentric.net

If anyone has data on rollers, the guys at www.analyticcycling.com do
