hey, i'm 16 and plan on doing my first crit in about a month and a half. it is roughly 24 miles i beleive, and i was wondering how fast of a pace i might expect? right now i haven't ridden since about august, but i'm in pretty good shape from running cross country and i am also playing lacrosse. while i wont be in top shape for the race, i beleive i can contend for most of the distance. do you guys have any tips? i live in austin, so i'm assuming its a pretty intense racing scene. This is my first bicycle race of any kind, so any hints or tips are appreciate

Hey Good Luck! That is awesome that you're trying out your first race. The pace of the race will be determined by the "peloton" or the main pack of riders. The faster it goes the faster you will go along with them.
Since the race is 6 weeks away and you are already in pretty good shape, I would recommend to start riding your bike fast. Intervals, Hill climbs, sprints-- anything that resembles the type of racing you will be doing in this crit. Make sure you take planty of rest days but also throw in some hard days as well. A sample schedule might look like
Tuesday: Intervals
Wednesday: Sprints, crit conering skills
Thursday: Rest
Friday: Zone 2 for 1 hour
Saturday: fun ride with friends or teammate But mix it up!
Sunday : Intervals again if you feel up to it.

One thing you can always expect about crits, is that, unless you are the "big motor", it will never play out as you expected it to. It just might start out slow for 5 laps, and then pick up speed. It might start out at 30 MPH, to drop the riders who didn't warm up properly. The whole race might be easy, except for the last two laps.
Just be ready for anything, and remember. Position, Position, Position. It's 80% of the game.
One more thing. Stay away from the goofballs.

hey guys, thanks alot. right now i am still running 3-6 miles about 3-4 times a week, as well as mountain biking for about 2 hours a week and playing lacrosse about 2 hours four times a week, so i will ride as much as possible, but that will probabaly only be 4 times a week at most. as far as clothing goes, i'm going to wear a pair of biking shorts, but for a jersey can i just wear one of my pro team jerseys, or should i just wear a plain one, or what. thanks again

Just wear a plain jersey, if you are unattatched. Riders who wear "Pro" jerseys in USCF races are laughed at behind their backs. (Unless they win)
