|Weight Room Advice for Strength Training (Friel) help!||Spunout|

|Okay, I'm committed this winter to re-capture my youth, my quads, and my climbing ability. Have Friel's training bible, will pump iron.
Here's the catch: I have an opportunity to work out at work, my company (alright, a federal government) has a weight room. It won't have machines/barbells to do squats or dead lifts, but there is a leg press. This gym is cheap and handy, if small.
Is this good enough? I am forced to travel, pay alot more money to go to a place with a squat cage. I could also do the stairs, as my workplace gym is in an office tower.

|Better than nothing. In addition to building strength, weights are good to correct muscular imbalances brought on my lots of miles on the bike. Leg press machines are good for doing single leg work.
Hamstrings (leg curls) are a serious issue. It's hard to hit them if you don't have a machine. Jon in CT knows some excersizes using those inflatable balls.
A lot of cyclists have knee problems 'cuz the outer thigh muscles pull the knee out of alignment. Leg extensions or low dip presses are good for getting the inner thigh muscle (the one just inside and above the kneecap).

|You do not need a squat machine. If you can get some cheap bar bells that would be an enormous help. The leg press is great and any machine that work your legs is good. Only do weights 3 x a week. Low reps, minimum weight to get used to fr 8weeks if you are not used to it.Also, do si ups and pushups. This will help you alot. Also look into a power ball. Check out the message board at Friels website. There is alot of discussion|| |
