What kind of pedals are the pros using...and who? Speedplay, Look, Campy, Shimano? I know that Lance and Inc. are using the new shimano Dura ace, but what are the other pros clipping into?
What their sponsors provideKerry

Seriously, riders on whatever the team sponsors provide, or in some cases what they have negotiated separately for sponsorship. While Speedplay, Time, Look, Campy, and Shimano are all different, and those of us who buy our own stuff can make our own choices, there really aren't enough differences between top of the line pedals such that a pro would win races on one and lose races on another.
you sure about that?DougSloan

I thought pedals were more of a personal item, judging from different riders from the same team using different brands. This might be one of those areas in which using a specific item is more important than sponsorship. How much visability to pedals get for manufacturers, anyway? Any info published on this? (I'm not saying you're wrong in the slightest, but just speculating whether the norm really applies here.)

Pedals vs. bikes vs. sunglassesKerry

Each team has a different sponsor package. In many cases, the riders negotiate their own contracts for things like shoes, sunglasses, and pedals. Often there are conflicts between an existing sponsor contract that a rider has made and the team contract when riders switch teams. The old team had no rules on pedals, so the rider got a pedal sponsor independent of the team, now the new team pedal sponsor is different and the old contract is still in force. All of these things get negotiated when riders move from team to team or when the nature of the sponsorship changes for a given team from year to year. Every once in a while things like this come up in some of the "interview with a rider" articles in Cycle Sport or VeloNews. These guus are pros, and at the top level it's hard to imagine them buying anything out of their own pocket when they can get someone to sponsor them. Even when a bunch of pros were riding re-painted Vortexes, I doubt the cost was coming out of their own pocket. Yes, they chose to ride something other than the team sponsor's equipment, but it was then painted to look just like the sponsor's bike. Probably some interesting negotiations to make that happen.

Lance rode late-80s Shimano Look-copies until last year. I believe I've seen Postal riders using real Looks as well as Speedplays. I don't think pedals generally fall under the 'team mandated schwag' rule.
Bike change/swap: You'd better all be using the same pedals. nmSpunout
