Did any of you out there do the Green Mountain Stage Race. I'd be interested in what you thought. I t was my second year and I thought it was a great event. I spoke to Lynn Bessette, a Canadian pro rider who was riding with the men's 1/2 field. Her comment was that the road course was too short, only 65 miles. I rode with the 4/5s over 33 and can assure the mere mortals out there that with two gaps and and 5500' of climbing it was long enough for me.
Yeah, it was my first time...Wayne

and I thought it was an excellent event, esp. the courses. Maybe could have had better control of the road race. A bunch of stopped about 15 miles into the road race to take a piss and discovered there was no following officials or neutral support.

But, I got the flu the first day and had the um...ahem...runs :( and my legs felt shot. I was really bummed but wayne looked strong. I cant wait for it next year. I had to bow out after the RR since I just could not keep it together. I sure wish they would take out that dirt road though, I lost my chain and there is no way to get back on the group from there. But I got some good info on my SRM and will be stronger next year. I think its the best race of the yer for the East Coast although the purse should be BIGGER to attract better teams for the 1/2. Good to see you Wayne.
You Stopped???Ted

I've never practiced pissing while on the bike, since most of the races aren't long enough for it to matter. The race was on for the first bit until we went through a sprint spot and then it pretty much shut down until we were on the first climb. BTW this was a 3+ hour race, not a crit!

I was in the 4/5 33+ group, We had been neutralized as the master 40's blasted through. I hear that the peloton is going to stop and take a piss,so I get off the bike and do my thing, and as i'm peeing I notice only about five of us have stopped. Thankfully it was at the start of a long climb and the pack was moving slowly. So much for communication and trust.

Hmm I can see it now. Half way through a race ... and uh oh .. time to raise my hand and say .. I have to go to the bathroom ... I might just cause them all to fall down laughing.

Isn't that what the empty water bottles are for :)

I'm not sure what you're getting at...Wayne

but stopping to take a piss isn't an uncommon occurrance even amongst pros. Who is "them all" that would fall down laughing?

The field always take a break at this point to pee. Usually its about 1/3 of the field has to go but everyone waits up. Its just not a great place to break away and te race gets real hard about 10 minutes after the pee break

Stopping to pee during road races is fairly common, even amongst the amateur ranks. Of course, if you are a Cat 4/5, then it might not be for a 40 mile race...

I was in the 4/5 32+ group. I thought the race was organized and run beautifully. My only gripe is the premature pulling of riders from the Monday Crit. About 30 of us were yanked early in the race (5/6th lap???) while the lead group was nowhere in site. I spoke with race officials and they've heard from many folks that were unhappy about this. They have admitteded they made an error and are trying to remedy the problem as best they can. I believe they will actually "finish" us, rather than the DNF we got ... so stayed tuned for a potential change in the race results.
