|Any suggestions or links to good websites relating to doing a 24 hour race and what to use for fuel? We are entered as a 4 man team so I'm certain the requirements are not as critical as say a solo event.

|No ideas on websites, but I do have some ideas from experience. If you try to eat race fuel (gels, bars, fancy drinks) for 24 hours, you'll have such bad gas that everyone around you may quit. The 24 hr races I've done have had really short laps (less than 45 minutes), which means I had 2:15 to digest food once I finished. When I finished my lap, the first thing I would do was eat a small meal - apple, banana, rice and beans, pad thai, pasta, pizza, donut, cookie, egg mc muffin, pancakes. Don't stuff yourself and eat a variety of foods that you are comfortable with and know you can digest easily. I did eat a little clif bars when it was 45 min before my next lap and felt a little undernourished and I did drink some recovery drinks in the middle of the night when I was sick of foraging the foods. Drink often and anything with sugars is great. The only mistake I made was having a slice of pizza 30 min before my next lap. I already ate my mini meal but it was hot and I knew it would be cold when I returned. The greatest treat was a stiff espresso drink 15 min before going out on my first morning lap. Get your teammates to bring twice as much food as you think you'd need, because variety is a wonderful thing. Most likely, you laps will take longer than 45 min which will give you even more time to digest your food. Enjoy yourself and don't forget to charge your light batteries in the middle of the night.|
