Chicago Training Rides/RacesGurn

I will be in downtown Chicago 8/31 weekend and 9/14 weekend. Does anyone have any good racing oriented club rides, races, centuries, etc. that they might recommend? I would prefer something I can ride to in the city, but I can rent a car for a good ride.

Thanks!

Talk about improving your average speed. Or you could check out www.peteslist.com for some midwest racing info although I dont know if you are wiling to travel outside Chicago

I don't live in Chicago, but I've been flirting with the idea of moving there for a full decade now.

First: I've walked past Cabrini Green at all hours of the day, in all seasons, and never had a problem.

Secondly, check out http://www.evanstonbikeclub.org and http://www.chicagocylingclub.org for ride info and contact information. At the very least, you can write to the people in those clubs.

Also consider posting a question to the General forum here. I suspect that Alex-In-Evanston might be able to give you some pointers.

Finally, I've felt safer riding in downtown Chicago than I have in rural Virginia on many occasions. Its just those pesky stoplights that keep your average speed down!

There is a ride that leaves from Higher Gear on Fulerton. I think it is Wednesday nights, around 5:30. Ride heads north out of the city. Good pace once outside the city. Give them a call

It's got a good list of the club rides in the area.
