USPRO citizen's race - good first crit?(7 posts)

USPRO citizen's race - good first crit?flowmd

Another first crit question. I'm going to Downer's Grove to watch the USPRO criterium championships next month and read about the Master's 30+ citizen's race being held that Saturday. Would a fairly strong 45 year old road rider with some pack experience looking to try a crit be too overwhelmed here? I'm sooo tempted to give it a shot but don't want to get in over my head by too much. I'm more out for the experience than anything else. Is this a "go for it" or leave the bike at home?

Sounds like the perfect opportunity to me. I'd do it if I were you....

What's the worse that could happen? Come in last, get lapped or crash?

Happy riding! And GOOD LUCK!

8/3 Arlington Classic Crit, Arlington Heights (
8/4 Wood Dale Crit (
8/11 Winfield III Crit (

Fri. nights are citizen night at the Northbrook Velodrome. Great place to practice your sprints and close riding with fewer riders.

See you at Downers. I'll be one of those Citizen Masters way in the back racing with 4 or 5 others for 25th or whatever and loving every minute of it.

If I lived down that way I'd check it out. I'm up in the UP of Michigan. I'm deciding which race to enter, citizen Masters 30+ men or the Sr Cat 5 men and citizen men open. Which would be best for a 45 year old rookie road racer wanting to try his first crit?

Yep, I'm heading over to Grandview next weekend to race the WISPORT Firehouse 50. Raced it last year and had one heck of a good time, even if I did flat. After that it's the Ore to Shore here in Marquette and then it's down to Downers Grove.
See you all at Downers?rollo tommassi

I think I'll put my RBR 'name' on my helmet, so if you see "Rollo", say hello!!
