foot pain-hot spotswtm

Well, I started road riding more than ever this spring and with mtn bike shoes and pedals. My shoes were also too big, I think. Eventually I developed pain right on the ball of my right foot. I've switched to new shoes and look road pedals but it hasn't really remedied the problem yet, even after two weeks off. does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this, I really don't want pain in my foot to ruin my season. Thanks very much for your help.

Try moving the cleats farther back on the shoe. This is a standard technique in ultra-distance riders who get the hot foot. Otherwise, it may take more than 2 weeks off to recover. As a lesson, don't let things go so far the next time - in many cases you spiral down rather than "ride throug the pain" on a road bike. An overuse injury is just that, and more use is not likely to fix it.
