|Boulder County Racers: Who did the Horgan?||dcm311|

|I did and it was brutal. Magnolia is easily the most difficult road in the area, be it the extreme (my friend's mapping software says steepest part is 17%) grades or the choppy washboard. Shelf road is also pretty tough after the first part of the race.
My time was about 1:45 and I won the juniors. Some kid came out from Mass to do it (and look at CU).
Also, anyone know the guy who won the pro 1 2? I've heard he's kind of a mystery man from a couple of his teammates (Scwab I believe).

|Magnolia was so hard it wasn't even funny. On the advice of my teammate I ran a 12-27 and still wished I had more gears. Once Magnolia was done though I thought it was pretty fun and made up a lot of places on the dirt roads and the final climb up Shelf. Finished in 1:43 which will probably be top 3rd in the 3s, at least I hope. Our best teammate finished in the top ten around 1:38.
The guy who won the Pro/1/2 was a 3 until last week. He showed up for the first time at Estes Park SR and completely dominated every race from there through State RR where he won solo by a huge margin. The word is he was some sort of southern collegiate champion. Now I know why the races in June were so hard.

|That's just not right. I think it's time for us to protest until our favorite wunderkind moves up. I like the kid but does he have to eat my lunch every weekend.|

|King was just taking our money for the last month. I thought he would have upgraded after completely dominating at Estes.
Apparently Stockburger will upgrade at the end of the road season. I think he came in 3rd at Horgan behind 2 pro tri guys.

|Magnolia is brutal. What was your gearing out of curiousity? You doing the Bob Cook climb in 2 weeks?|
Jul 15, 2002 9:08 AM
|My gearing was 39-53 and 12-25
I was thinking about taking the 12-27 off my cross bike and putting it on my road bike, but then I got lazy. I also figured I'd be pushing the samre cadence in a 27 as a 25 (about 3.5 rpms) so the 25 would make me faster.
I am doing the Mt. Evans, but it's unlikely I'll race juniors because I want to go to the top, however I'd be cool to get some points.
I didn't realize how steep the last section of shelf road is until I looked at this today. I thought I was just worn out.

|I believe King actually won the Division II NCCA nats for Colorado College. He is fast.
Did anyone else see the guy finishing on Shelf Rd in his 12 cog (broken derailler or cable?). I don't know if he was a P12 or a Vet who had passed me earlier, but it did not look like fun and said so. He said he had to keep going cause there was water to drink at the top.
Anybody see results posted anywhere? I don't see on ACA or Boulderracing.com.

|He was cutting even more switchbacks up shelf road than I was.
Results aren't up yet. What did you race?
