|I've about had it. The last four races (mtb, i train 50% road)i've been in the lead w/ the trophy in the bag and a mechanical, tire, chain, so forth puts me out. Most of these have been merely flukes. Does anyone have any advice how to handle this mentaly? I'm faster then my competition but destiny chooses otherwise i guess. I'm getting burnt.|

|The only part of this that is mental is not preparing your bike properly, I'd think, or using too light equipment/tires, etc.
I almost never (knock on wood) break stuff. Also, since going to heavier tires and tubes, flats are almost non-existent.
Maybe pros don't usually ride super-light techno-weenie stuff for a reason, and have pro wrenches prepare their bikes.
I hate mechanicals, too. I try to avoid them by preparing and testing the bike thoroughly.

Im very picky when it comes to prerace stuff, almost anal. Like i said it's been flukes. Thorn last race 2min ahead, next race, a crash resulted in a bent der resulting in chainsuck rear bumped me down to third, third race another crash while attempting to pass the lead bumping shoulders, he was blocking my pass- i lost and hit a tree. Wake me up from this freakin unlucky nightmare. I'm totaly obsessing over what should've been.

|Sounds like you just have streak of bad luck. If you are preparing all you can, and stuff still happens, you are just unlucky, I suppose.
All we can do is decrease the odds of bad things like this. Stuff still happens.

|2 crashes in 4 events may qualify as more than bad luck.|

|this season: crashed in the first race, which screwed up the crit the next day. placed in 2 races. then crashed and broke collarbone.
you're not the only one with bad luck, but it will end. don't sweat it.
