Advice on starting out?PatMatt

I'm 27 and have been riding (mountain and road) for quite a while. I even make my living in the industry but have never entered a race. Kind of a lone wolf thing I guess. Anyway, I have been tossing around the idea of joining a local group (Southbay Wheelmen) in LA and maybe entering a race or two. Having never participated in such a thing I am just curious if anybody has some advice.

Just go for it. If you're thinking about it then you obviously want to try it. If you don't you'll always wonder about it and regret not taking a chance. If you're fit you should be able to hang with cat 5's. I thought about it for a year and a half before jumping in. In my first race I attacked with 2 miles to go, someone bridged up to me, and I came in second. If you're not experienced in pack riding work on that in some group rides.
