|What's a lower saddle position better for again?||hrv|

|Was watching the recap of the Liege... race last night and noticed how low many of the riders are; we're talking some major knee bend here. Thought some were on an mtb! Very few had the 'recommended' slight bend with the leg in the most extended position. What's up? I guess none of them have knee problems, huh?
I would think if anyone (besides RAAM types) would have a spot on,pain free bike fit it would be these guys. I just started changing my saddle position and I'm noticing this stuff more now. Just curious.

|I started to think there was something wrong with me because I simply cannot stand riding with a low saddle height. My knees would be destroyed in a matter of a few rides if I had that type of set up. I tend to have my saddle a bit higher than the "slight bend" rule.|
|I seem to get more power out of a lower position||shirt|

|Been experimenting for the last year. I'm probably a full inch lower than I used to be. It might be a _little_ harder on my knees, but I feel like I get a lot more power to the pedals. No, I haven't done a study with instruments; it's a seat of the pants thing.

|climbing (east coast style, none of that Alpe de Colorado stuff, but tough enough for us mere mortals), and my legs are comfortably buzzing all over, no pain, no signs of localized stress. |
I'm a believer.

|I'm a definite beginner, and was having some knee pain, so take this with some beginner salt.
Took my bike to the local shop to get a new stem installed, and the guy practically laughed at me for how high my saddle was. We dropped it about 1.5 inches (I had it about where I set it for my mtb that I cruise to the grocery store on).
a) knee pain gone; b) tons more power, as evidenced in a 35mi. alpe de colorado ride (for me anyway) yesterday on the scenic biway in colorado (estes park to ward). c)didn't end up getting the stem...$$
