Cat 5's in PhillyCheezhead

Hey all. I want to get into crit racing, but not sure how well i would do. To anyone racing in the Philadelphia area, or any nearby area with similar terrain, what kind of speeds can i expect in Cat 5 races?? I've been reading around the boards here, and read somewhere that Cat 4 races go around 28 mph!?? That's a little too fast for me still. I've been riding for a couple of months now, and hope to start racing soon... just want to make sure i don't get blown off the back. Thanx for your help!

my advice is to meet up for a group behind the art museum at 9am...by the end of the ride (roughly 45 miles) if you are still within the top 6 to finish you'll be ok....there is also a race tonight in fairmount park at 645, 3 sprints and 12 laps around a short crit...i know how to get there but i couldnt explain it...they meet up at the bulldog statue at 630 first which is beside the art museum...ive been once and wasnt close to placing in any of the sprints and im a good 4...sprints are an event in themselves...these races might be thursday but im pretty sure theyre tuesday night...the sat morning rides are better in my opinion, safer and longer with more interesting terrain...but if you want to try a couple of laps doing a crit and see how different it is, which it is, risk your bike and body at the night ride...they wipe out alot but nothing bad, bring a rear blinker...i just remembered that it was undecided if they were going to continue throught daylight savings, there are other things around, write back if you want to know

I'm not sure where the Cat. 4's are that are going 28 mph
average but they should have been racing at TWILIGHT last weekend as Gord Frazier only averaged 29 mph for the Pro/1 race. This was the 2nd fastest race in the 23 year history of TWILIGHT, the fastest being 4 years ago at 30 mph. I'm not sure of this but I understand that this is one of if not the fastest crit in the US.
