Fit question?(3 posts)

Fit question?853

I'm not sure if it belongs here, but this will used for racing. I'm getting a new Cannondale Cadd 5 frame. That I will mostly use for crits and road races. The question is regarding the overall top tube length. I'm used to having a 65.5 cm overall TT. The 52cm frame has a 53.5cm TT add the 120cm stem and I get 65.5TT. The 54cm frame has a 54.5cm TT
Which means I would have to use a 110cm stem to get the desired reach. What size should I get? the 52 w/ a longer stem or the 54 w/ a smaller stem? I always use a 54cm frames, is there any benifit in going smaller?

If you go with the smaller frame, it will be slightly lighter and stiffer. Stiffness will not be too much of an issue no matter what size Cannondale frame you get however, because they are just about the stiffest things around. I have a 50cm CAAD4, and it don't flex at all! You will also have a bit more standover with the smaller frame, but of course you will have to have a longer stem and move your seatpost up higher (and probably move the seat back pretty far on the rails). If you have long legs, go with the bigger frame. If you have short to regular length legs, get the smaller frame.

Not that much difference here, but what could make a big difference is the angles of the frame. A Steep head tube with a longer stem could really change the handling that you are used to.
