It poured for at least half of the race. Pretty intense riding in a pack when you can't see the other riders or the road.

Seemed like a lot of entries across the board. My first time there and I had a blast. I wound up 6th in the lowly Cat 5 group out of 27. I didn't expect there to be such good competition at this level and it was refreshing.

What cat are you? Do you live in Pittsburgh?

The rain, ha! Congratulation for the placing! Yeah, I am in Pittsburgh. I am a student attending CMU. A lowly cat.5 as well.
First race of the season, I suppose there are quite a few fresh legs and eager minds. Did you feel safe in the pack? Any squirrels?(since I am not there, there's one less squirrel:) Hopefully my friend can give me a ride next week, so I can pick up another "mass start", so I can upgrade by June. Or else, I'll just roll to the Oval next Tuesday.
Did the organizers mix the 4s and 5s, like they do at the Oval?

I'm out East. Near Delmont.

The pack was extremely stable, I thought. Seemed like a pretty experienced group after the first climb anyway. More so than I expected for the nightmares i hear about Cat 5 races. They had so many people they split the 4-5's up and sent us off 5 minutes apart. We caught a pretty big group of 4's and blew past them.

Have you been to the OVAL races? What are they like? I'm going to check them out next Tuesday if I can swing it. Are you going? Look me up. I'm riding a vintage (all right) old red Cannodale 3.0.

Oval races, in my opinion, are VERY easy. It's a real bike oval, Half mile, with a slight uphill finish. The pace is easy. Tuesdays are cat4/5 mix, we do about 40 laps to make it 20 miles. The routine is just follow for 40 laps, then sprint. If you have the leg, you can pick up several intermediate prime. Wed are cat1,2,3,4, I don't know exactly how they race, since I never went on Wed. I am planning to go next Tuesday, I am the little asian guy on a blue GT, the skinny little one. Stay away from me in the race though, as I am considered "squirelly" : )
