|been there, done that.
depending on how pinched the nerve is and what treatment you are using, it can be a while. first, let me say, seek medical/phyisical therapy treatment pronto. i did, but the doctors(hmo) dismissed it temporarily as it was my third complaint of back pain in 1.5 months, not really back pain though, and i could not walk. i believe their slight delay in treatment(about a week)(and initial quack treatment methods(electical zapping which did nothing))(lately i have thought about filing malpractice lawsuit) resulted in my now permanent nerve damage. i have a fallen arch and do not have complete control of the afflicted foot. that was almost 4 years ago. it took about 8 months for all the nerve pain to go away. now my running is extra noisy.(a lot of foot flopping) i do seem to be able to ride fine now, 55min 40k tt, but feel limited in my next challenge(im)
the point of this rant is that, when it comes to nerve issues, do not take them lightly.

|It took ~2weeks for me to rid the injury. Here's a stretch that really helped (I still do it for prevention). http://www.rice.edu/~jenky/sports/piri.2.html
The advice I received was right on - DO NOT perform the stretch if it hurts. Lay off until you're able to do the stretch without pain (about a week for me) then begin stretching. After another week I was as good as new. Hope it helps! Good luck

|Thank you for the encouraging replys ! Wow I have delt with this problem since last Feb. I'm finally getting some relief by just simply relaxing, I'm taking time off from work to heal this problem. Your right, stretching while in pain slows the process of healing. The sciatica symptoms are beginning to go away, I just cant believe how long it is taking me to recover. I have experienced many injurys from MOTOX racing in the past, and always had successful recovery. I think it started last winter during some running and skate ski training. I sure would like to start riding, even if it is on those boring rollers. How about Acupuncture ?|| |
