Leg warmers are restrictive and sometimes shift while racing. I've seen all kinds of creams and oils that claim to keep the cold and wet off your legs--anyone have a good home mixture or a good suggestion for a product brand?

The warmers (Ben Gay, Tigerbalm, lots of Euro products) in reality don't do much to warm the muscles up or keep them warm. They are pretty much all essentially skin irritants, which bring blood to the surface (just the opposite of what you want if your goal is to stay warm). That being said they smell good, the placebo effect is real, and they probably don't do any harm. Oil's (vaseline would do just fine) probably provide some pretty good insulatory effect (that's why channel swimmers coat themselves in it), and would keep the wet off. Key to staying warm is your trunk and head. Bundle those up and you should be fine.

Wayne:
Thanks for the suggestions. I never thought of vaseline, but I imagine it would also provide a bit of protection from the wind.
