|Considering getting back into racing. Questions.||nigel|

Ten years ago (at 23) was my last (Cat. 4, which was the entry-level category then) race. I took several years off and got back into riding a lot last summer/fall. I've been riding steadily since, and am considering competing again next spring.
What are the Cat. 5 packs like? (Anyone in NYC know what the city Cat. 5 packs are like, in particular?)
Are they crazy with crashes and squirrely riders?
How do they compare, sizewise, with Cat. 4 packs? Any approximate numbers or percentages to give me an idea of the number of riders in these entry-level packs?
Do the 5s race with the 4s?
Thanks a lot for any information you can provide. I'll decide over the winter as I'm working out/training, but would appreciate any insights/warnings/advice you all can offer.

|Having raced in the past, you've already learned everything you would learn as a Cat 5 (which is the reason this category exists). I would petition for an upgrade ASAP. I live in the Seattle area, so I can't comment on NYC, but around here the 5s almost always race with the 4s. So you already know how those packs are going be as for crashes, etc. Early season would be the worst. With all that said, however, out here the Cat 3s tend to have the most crashes.|| |
