|I bought a new road bike not too long ago and the other day I was riding down a hill about 25-28MPH and as I headed into the turn near the bottom, my steering felt shakey. I am sure that this is probably pilot error and am looking for some advice on descending hills. Got any?|

|Check to make sure your headset is adjusted properly. If it is - and I notice you had the problem going into a turn - is that descending is all about position - seated back on the saddle, cranks parallel to the ground, HANDS IN THE DROPS, elbows bent and arms relaxed. KEEP YOUR KNEES IN AND TOUCHING THE TOPTUBE. When you enter a corner, make sure you extend the outside leg DOWN and put pressure on the outside pedal. Keep your arms relaxed and do not try to steer the bike with the bars. At speed you steer by leaning your weight - via your hips.|

Thanks for the advice. I remember doing several things wrong according to your advice. I'll try it next ride.

|... If I'm out of the seat, which I generally am in order to soak up any bumps, I want to either grab the top tube with my knees, or the nose of the seat with my thighs. This causes a very noticible improvement in handling.
Both hands on the bars are a must for any steering, and if any unexpected situation may arise. That said, some riders, myself included, under selected safe conditions, will use a one-handed aero tuck. I've even experimented with no-hands. Without stabilizing the frame as described above, I believe these actions would very likely result in a crash.
