I want to give blood, but ...Humma Hah

... due to the tragic events today, I'm motivated to give blood. However, I did that nutty 150-mile cruiser ride on Saturday, and have had a faint odor of ammonia about me ever since. Frankly, I smell like I've been playing in the cat's litter box. I know this is a result of over-doing it, and probably metabolizing muscle tissue.

Assuming I keep hydrated and get good nutrition, how fast should this pass? Anybody know if it would make my blood less suitable for donation? Other than stinking a bit, I feel fine.

...because I lived in England 10 YEARS AGO!!! I tried to give at our blood drive a few months ago, the same drive that I have given to for years. Suddenly this year, my blood is no good. Apparently, I might have mad cow or hoof-in-mouth. Don't really understand how they can be so desperate for blood, yet refuse me because of something that I did a decade ago. Now what do I do to help?

but becasue I just kicked a heroin habit last year..only kidding. Yep, I have mad cow too apparently. I asked if it would matter that I was vegetarian and they said no. I wasn't really but never ate much meat while in the UK anyway. I might try again next week to see if the rules have been relaxed.

Bubonic plague outbreak in 1995 forced Life-Source to give India the black ball. If you've been in the previous two years you can't give, which essentially means I can't give blood for the rest of my life.

Too bad,

I donate regularly in the midst of 350 mile weeks, and the only issue I every face is in very hot weather when I'm flooding myself with water to stay hydrated. Blood volume increases and so HCt drops - they won't take it if your HCt is under about 37%. Give blood - I'm headed for the far turn and nearing the home stretch for 6 gallons.
