After you race 10 mass start races, you can upgrade to Cat. 4. After that, you upgrade to each subsequent category based on results in races. I don't have the requirements in front of me, but they are in your USCF rule book. Simple as that.

ive looked at the rule book and ive also looked on the web and they conflict...maybe the rules have changed but you used to be able to move up with good placings in races..if you look on the web it says you can

you make ten top 10 finishes and you can upgrade to Cat 3 from a Cat 4.

Points for places 1-6 as follows 7-5-4-3-2-1, you need at least 20 points in a 12 month period to upgrade.

ive talked to the regional rep and they said that to move from cat 5 you now have to do 10 races regardless...grrr...

The 20 points was to upgrade from 4 to 3. To upgrade from 5 to 4 is different rules - just ride in 10 races, and you can move to 4. To move up from 4, you have to have placings. This has been stated about 4 times in this thread!

since you seem so keen, why not just ask them to put you in Cat. 3 now, and then please don't come to NJ/PA races.

..the web says points..lots of people say points...the book says that it is 10 races, but this requirement is not on the rule changes page for 2000....yes it has been stated the the rule is now 10 races, i know that, but even that rule seems to not be in stone...if you know some history or understanding of this discrepency id be happy to hear but if not dont write

I think that If you look, that you will see that it says (or) for the two ways of moving up, of course you still need to apply for the upgrade with the USCF. Thanks

For 2001, it's 10 races from 5 to 4. Yes, I have done it myself and so have many people I know. 4 to 3 is on results.
