My first time trial(2 posts)

I just did my first time trial today. 10 miles. I did not stay for the results because I have to get up early for work in the a.m. and I would have been there late. Shortly after I crossed the line I looked at my computer and the time was at 27:33. I'm not sure of my exact time but I averaged 22 miles an hour. The results should be online in a couple of days, hopefully. I think I lost about 30 seconds because the course was not well marked and I had to stop once when I thought I missed my turn and slowed on a couple of other occasions when I was unsure of the route. It hurt my concentration a little but oh well, I'll know the course next time. Is this a good time for a first effort? I think next time I'll push a bigger gear. I was worrying about lactic acid accumulating in my legs so I was spinning fast in a small gear. Plus, I had more left at the end than I should have and was able to sprint to the finish, so I must not have ridden hard enough. So much to learn. Can't wait until the third tuesday of September!

Sounds just fine to me. It takes awhile to figure your body out, learn proper warmup, pacing, etc. A good idea is to find the course you're targeting next month and go out and ride it several times. That alone will probably buy you 30 seconds come race day.
