I pulled out after 20 minutes. When I was registering I stepped in mud and completely clogged my Speedplay cleats. I had to spend my normal warmup time with a stick and pointy rocks getting the cleats clean enough so that I could clip in. Apparently I didn't get them cleared out enough because my right foot would sometimes unclip when I hit those drainage ditches. After 20 minutes I decided to pull out since I couldn't clip back in consistently to sprint out of the next corner, plus I wanted to save myself for the Weld County RR, which was a good move since I had an excellent race at Weld.

BTW, how did Edgewater turn out? It was blistering fast at the start and the whole field was pretty much strung out single file for the first half of the crit when I pulled out. Considering the crappy course, staying fast and single file was probably the safest move.

Oh yeah, who are you?

My name's Doug, I ride for Red Rocks Velo, like all RRV guys I ride a red Wilier.

The race stayed strung out almost the whole time with a few short breaks. It was really fast when we were chasing the two man break. I really wanted the Mr. Potatohead prime. I screwed up the last lap again and finished 5th.

How did Weld RR go? I really hate that course.

Speedplay X-roadies are wonderful pedals but truly suck at anything mud.

I endoed in a crit last year and landed in 6" of mud (construction site). The bike and I both ended up wearing a lovely spa-type mudpack, but otherwise totally unscathed. I have a great pic of me afterwards looking like Al Jolson. It took three teammates, two screwdrivers and several bottles of water to clean/flush those darn cleats and put me back in - and even then the official had to grant me an "extra" free lap because the stoopid things took forever to clean up enough to clip into.
