For the excellent interval / training advice!!! The VO2MAX intervals truly suck, but have helped dramatically.

To the Thursday VO2MAX intervals, I've also added a 3-4 hour MTB singletrack ride on the weekend day I'm not racing.

I've finished top-5 in my last two crits. One of them (remember these are Women's 4 events) averaged 23.4 mph for 40 minutes on a narrow, technical course full of potholes - literally the fastest race of my life. Had I not hit a marking pylon in the 2nd to last corner (road went from 4 lanes to 1 and I was being unbelievably stupid trying to move up on the outside) and lost some places recovering, I might have won the daggoned thing. 4th was better than crashing, and that brilliant maneuver got a LOT of people off my wheel :)

State championship crit is on Sunday.
Good luck this weekendBipedZed

Sounds like you're going well in time for Longmont.

I'm still undecided about the state crit championship as I'm still not feeling right after last weekend (Estes stage race) and can't do any intensity without hacking up my lungs. One thing I did learn is that I am most definitely NOT competitive in races with long small ring climbs. Looks like I need to face the fact that I'm a TT/crit racer and not the climber that I thought I was!

Actually, I can't wait for cross season. I'm really bummed the Mead Tuesday night CX series has been cancelled this year. I spoke with Andy Rosen right before the Estes TT and he said it's due to track construction.

I just hope I'm not over the top and sliding down the other end! Tapering this week, like I'm supposed to.

<> Yeah, I saw that and was totally bummed. We promoted a CX series back in Cincinnati, so there's an outside chance we can figure something / someplace out as a partial solution.

I avoided that state RR / Estes thing for a reason, you know :) Hope you're feeling better for this weekend. We drive a big maroon minivan with RESER BICYCLE OUTFITTERS on the side windows, and I wear Louisville Velo kit and race a white Redline Conquest (can't miss it, it's the only 'cross bike at the race). Come by and say hi if we see you there. Lafayette is my hometown, so I'll be doing the BAM crit on Saturday, too.
Congrats! & Good Luck! (nm)Kyle
