|While I admit your stock Huffy is suitable only as a bike-toss implement, not all Huffys are created equal. Mike Melton, their custom builder, made bikes for LeMond and the '84 Olympics, and if you're a racer from Dayton Ohio, you definitely know him. From 1992 to 1995 I rode for the Dayton Cycling Club racing team. Their title sponsor for years and years was Huffy. Got a nice tig-welded custom steel frame out of the deal, sadly I no longer have it (casualty of the move to CO).
Funny thing about that racing team. The psychological baggage associated with riding a HUFFY bike, along with wearing a fugly team kit that had HUFFY in 1000 point helvetica block caps across the front, back and down the leg panels will make you a darned good, aggressive racer. If any of you know Kirk Albers (Jelly Belly pro) or Jen Dial (Independent Fab elite 'crosser), they came out of that team. There was another gal who rode for the DCC who silvered at the '84 Olympics - I can never recall her name (before my time for sure), but she still lives in Dayton. Not bad for a local club. Not the Wolverine club by any stretch, but good enough for a po-dunk town like Dayton.
