My team is planning our first event and I'm wondering if anyone out there could pass on some tips for resources they found helpful when putting together their races. I'm starting from scratch but have been learning quickly about insurance, permits and even port-johns.
Any books, websites, etc...

|Oddly enough, the USCF has a handbook that is a How-To for race planning. One would think that after shelling out license fees to them such a font of knowledge would be free to the membership, but I believe you have to purchase it ($10?)
If you've already started talking to municipal agencies for permits, you are on the right track, and in many instances those same people can help you with other issues, or at least give guidance. Talk to the Chamber of Commerce, get someone of Power and Influence on your side. Oftentimes just knowing the brother of the mayor who owns the hardware store (who can donate 1,000 zip ties) is the best thing. You never know where help can come from, so be enthusiastic about what you're doing and how it shows off the community.
