|Never Raced - Need Advice||Limegreen|

|I have never road raced before but MTB race. Just bought a road bike. 41 years old. 2 hour ride average 22.4MPH riding alone on slight rolling terrain. Calm cool day.
I do understand drafting concepts.
What level should I consider riding my first race and what kind of shape am I in?

|Read my post one thread down... it may help a bit. Limey, you could ride the cat4/5s or the 40+. It sounds like your fitness is pretty good, but the 40+ races can be quick... a crit just a week ago was cranking at about a 25 mph average for 50 minutes or so.
But while I can give you advice, or others can, the only way you'll both truly learn is to go out and do it. I just did my first few crits and although the kind and wise folks on this board did a lot to *tell* me what to look for, trust me, it's far different in the heat of battle. Things will happen (breakaways, etc) before you even realize it. Or, you might think it's a break, go like mad only to have it peter out and get snapped up by the field again.
So, the best advice I can give is in the previous post to Gelo... just let it happen, learn and have fun.
