I've been saddled with the responsibility of publicizing the race our club is putting on this year. I was wondering if any of you have any secret techniques for getting publicity for your races, i.e. how to get in to newspapers, tips on effective press release writing, etc...
Also, I plan to post the event to as many web-sites as I can (ones that won't charge me anything). Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom!

|1. Local Bike Shops: Most shops will let you promote a race at their shop even if they are not connected with it. |
2. Local Fitness Clubs... same thing.
3. Local FREE papers. Some cities have a paper (sometimes 2-3 papers) that has articles and info regarding events in the area. GREAT resource to check into.
4. Local web sites. I would start with the cycling fed. in your state. They should have a listing of cycling clubs. Many cycling clubs have their own boards that you might be able to post on. Be sure to check first!! You don't want to try and be promoting a race and burning bridges at the same time.
5. Local Cycling Clubs. Sending an individualized invitation (hard copy or e-mail) to clubs in the area could get many people interested in your race.
