|US plans for an 'Appointocracy' in Iraq...||Spunout|

Mr. Bremer wants his Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) to appoint the members of 18 regional organizing committees. The committees will then select delegates to form 18 selection caucuses. These selected delegates will then further select representatives to a transitional national assembly. The assembly will have an internal vote to select an executive and ministers who will form the new government of Iraq. That, Bush said in his address, constitutes "a transition to full Iraqi sovereignty."
Got that? Iraqi sovereignty will be established by appointees appointing appointees to select appointees to select appointees. Add to that the fact that Mr. Bremer was appointed to his post by President Bush and that Mr. Bush was appointed to his by the U.S. Supreme Court, and you have the glorious new democratic tradition of the appointocracy: rule by appointee's appointee's appointees' appointees' appointees' selectees.
Hilarous, but scary and true. Rest of article here:
I am reading alot of international press with an open mind, but can't understand why more people don't oppose this whole thing. And to think, I almost took a job with Bechtel.

|To begin with there's no way Dumbya wants real democracy in Iraq or any other middle eastern country. The result would be even more virulently anti-American governments in the so-called "moderate" Arab states. The intention all along was to overthrow Saddam and install a pro-American government or an American puppet government in Iraq. Second, Iraq does not have the social or cultural mores to conduct real, peaceful democracy and peaceful transition from one elected government to another. These people are conditioned to violent, theocratic tribalism. So the most brutal headthumpers rule the roost.
The most probable outcome of this whole American-putsch thing will be the emergence of a somewhat more benevolent oligarchy replacing the Baathists, and one which is clearly subservient to the U.S.
