History repeating itself?ColnagoFE

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

BTW...I checked at Snopes and this quote appears to be legit and not a Urban Legend

Of course history will repeat itself. It's hard to be original after all these years.
Goering was right, what is your point? (nm)53T

Point being that much of the propaganda...ahem information...coming out of the GWB camp these days sounds like they might have taken a few lessons from Goering in how to justify a war and lessen dissent. Plus it's fun to be able to disingenuously link the current administration to the Nazi party. ;)

You guys have Charles Shumer and Diane Feinstien in your corner. Where do I start with the Nazi parallels?

Goering was stating a truth, teaching the court a lesson in international relations. He knew what he was talking about. All modern students of IR learn the same lessons. It should surprize nobody that the administration has staff that are students of international relations. The Clinton administration was similarly qualified.

Dean combs his hair in the morning, as did Hitler.
