AIRING OF GREIVANCES!(22 posts)

AIRING OF GREIVANCES!DougSloan

Here we go; I'll add more later.

Dino -- you're not here nearly enough.

OldEd -- I'm disappointed that you don't make a trip to the west coast so that we can go for a ride and have a drink or two.

Cory -- lighten up. You have so much potential to contribute, but seem to get way too worked up about things. Believe it or not, I think your writing is interesting and usually compelling, but a bit harsh.

Czar -- you remind me of my Communist (yes, with a capital "C") sociology professor in college. This was around 1979-1980, and he was swearing that 1. we'd be in "another Vietnam" in central America with a year; 2. that all oil would be used up by the year 2000; and 3. Communism would indeed win out over capitalism, as capitalism would ultimately collapse on itself. He had great arguments for all his beliefs, but he was just soooo wrong it was crazy. I did get an "A" in his class, because I got so fired up to argue with him.

All the Atheists -- you know what? I really don't care if you don't believe. Nothing you ever will say will change my mind in the slightest. Don't bother. Remember, also, that atheism is not a religion. Why then do you preach it so strongly? You disappoint me.

More later...

Doug

...but I guess it's just for the "head of household"

I'm gonna sneak in a couple anyway:

Greg Lemond: For popularizing frame geometries with looong top tubes, making it nearly impossible for someone with really long legs to fit a stock frame.

Most Bicycle Manufacturers: For not making frame sizes bigger than 60cm. Surly doesn't even make their steamroller larger than 59cm!! We're not all pro racers that want their bars a foot below the saddle with long stretched out positions.

I've got a few...

I can't stand bike "porn." It's a bike. A BIKE. With rare exception, it looks like every other bike. There's nothing special about your bike! Taking pictures of it and posting them is just weird. Responding to these posts is even weirder. It's a bike. Get on it and ride it, then put it away until the next time. Kristin had a great line once: "Was that a ride or a photo shoot?"

I can't stand Ebay posts. I drive by Ebay every day on my way home from work, and that's all the Ebay I care to see. I don't care about the scams, I don't care about the fools. I'm so glad these posts got banished to some obscure corner of the site.

To anyone who calls California "Cali," you suck. It doesn't make you sound hip at all. Besides, no one here says "Wash" or "Mass" or "New." Cali is a city in Columbia.

critmass, those idiotic codas you add to all your messages lead me and others to tune you out, which I don't think is your intent. It's true that your bitterness shows through, but also your myopia. It really bothers me that you haven't thought that some of the troops who died have mothers AND wives/husbands. And friends, too. I think there are a lot more grieving families than just one per, so if you are going to drag their families into your political statement (as if you care what THEY think), at least don't insult their other loved ones when you do.

Other than the increasingly fascist leanings of the board under Il Duce "No, I'm really a Libertarian" Sloan (even in a Republican administration, shouldn't there be room for dissent?), I don't have a single grievance. Live Steam is a hoot, and a handy reminder of why we should be ever vigilant and teach our kids to UNDERSTAND, not just read.
But I'm with mohair: It's a freaking BICYCLE, is all. My current main ride is my favorite material possession of all time, the last thing I'll give up when the jackbooted patriots come for the Democrats (they're still debating whether to do that before the election or just after...). But it's still just a bike.
Well, OK, a couple of other things:
The constant tendency of a lot of people to dismiss those who disagree with them as "bitter," "angry" or controlled by some other allegedly negative emotion is wearying. There are things we SHOULD be angry about.
And as I've said before, I'm sick to death of people who think their version of patriotism is the One True Path. It's entirely possible to love the country and still want it to be something better than the world's bully. Not supporting George Bush is not the same thing as supporting terrorism; opposing war is not treason.

Well, according to the rules:

"This is the part of the holiday where you tell your family and friends all the ways they have disappointed you during the year. "

No one here disappoints me at all. To do that, I would have to expect something from you, and you would have to fail to meet my expectations. I don't *expect* anything from you. You all are perfect just as you are.

Perfect *what* is the question. Let's just say you are all perfect in your own "special" ways.

To all groupo manufacturers:

How about making a groupo where all the cogs on a casette are useable? I can't count the number of times that I've heard "you shouldn't be riding in the big ring/big cog combo. it's bad for your casette." Totally ridiculous that all of these can't be useable for extended periods of time. If we were only meant to ride in 5 or 7 of the cogs, then only make a 5 or 7 cog casette.

To my employer:

How dare you make me work during prime riding time? If you would like your insurance costs to be lower, then allow me enough time during the day to get in a good ride without having to ride in the dark. When I'm more fit, I get sick less and miss less work. I probably a lot less grumpy than normal too.

To RBR.com posters:

Post more reviews.

To all you Johnny-Come-Lately fixed gear riders. I've been riding my fixed gear since 1999! All you 2000 and 2001 model year Surly cross check riders can kiss my butt. Stop diluting my coolness!

To MrGrumpy...dude, lighten up you bring me down

To ColnagoFE...dude, stop arguing with me on weightlifting stuff. Lets just you and me armwrestle in the feats of strength and get it over with (haha), honestly, I do appreciate your counterpoint.

To Aarontoy.....dude, just stop.

To Dale, JS, and other randoneering freaks: Stop dropping off your psycho literature and emailing me incessantly about joining your cult. How many times am I gonna have to say, I AINT INTERESTED.

To Akirashio: I dont know what the heck you do, but stop buying bikes and helmets. Im insanely jealous and find that no matter how much money I make, I cant afford as many phat bikes as you. I only have TWO helmets... and four bikes... you make me feel inferior...stop it.

To JS: your good ol' boy efforts and enthusiasm are making the rest of us... ok ME, look like a lazy punk. Not only do I not race cross, I do nothing to help the local racing scene, especially in the off season. Thanks a lot.

To all those "Lance wont win" trolls. Shut your gaping holes. Your ability to handicap the TdF is about as reliable as a rickshaw-laden homeless person. We don't know, you dont know, and didnt know and not one single person will ever give you props for "telling us so" if and when specific events happen. These posts are for nothing but getting peoples hackles up for no reason.

To all those "Potential Ebay Scam" posters... give me a freaking break, crawl out from under the rock where you live, get rid of the biopace rings and get a grip. I appreciate your enlightening us about the same scams that we are all bombarded with on a daily basis. Some guy wants to pay you $500 to ship your bike to Africa and will have someone pick it up... really?...you dont say... and you think its a scam... you obviously have an uncanny knack for noticing the obvious.

SERENITY NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Im not bitter.

I'm very upset that Goldie Hawn and Faith Hill have left the best thing they ever had. They took those Paris Hilton style (but better) videos the three of us shot together with them too!

1. To all the people that post political commentary in the general board- STOP IT
What I drive is none of your damn business

2. Newbie's: Please scan this site before asking a question. There are very few topics that haven't been discussed.

3. C-40- you are the undisputed king of fit but why are you so arrogant about it?

4. And finally to Dave Hickey- Why do you get upset about some posts from anonymous people on an internet forum?
I'm sooo disappointed...Dale Brigham

...in all of us who periodically lose our perspective and demean our fellow RBR board participants during political discussions. This next year is going to be a doozy, what with the E-Lekshun and all, and I hope we can keep the level of discourse above the baiting, name-calling, and general nastiness that we have seen on this board of late. (I include myself in this indictment.)

Senate campaign, couldn't make the fun.

No grievances anyway. We're all honest patriots, right?

Doug, the deal would have to be, drinks first, then ride. That's a Feat of Strength I could compete on. I'd ride your legs off. Otherwise, riding with me would be like riding with your wife, in my advanced decrepitude. But we'll try it someday. You too, rw, although I fear your tolerance & drunken abilities more than Doug's.

Belated happy Festivus, all. I'm readin Carville's new book, so brace yourselves for a fight-back New Year!

Doug: Get out and ride your freakin bike already. You used to do doubles at the drop of a hat. Fatherhood is not a prison.

J: You haven't written a friggin Haiku in years. Stop holdin out on us. I still break into spontaneous laughter thinking about "Mr. Brown Shorts".

Kerry: The most arogant guy on this site. It's ok if someone creates a thread on the wrong board. Get over it. If you want to race your DA/Open pro wheels, have a blast. Don't belittle others who go with something else.

Ahimsa: You never gave us part 3 of that story about you and Chipo. I'm bitter!!!

Time Trial dot org: Stop promoting you site. Buy a damn add.

Sherpa23: Who the hell are you?

To all on the "Non" board: Enough politics already. You guys sound like a bunch of freaks. The fact that you follow this stuff so closely is bizzarre. Your one vote doesn't count
i that
much.

The pic, that is. Argueing politics/religion/Campy v Shimano or just about anything, especially on an internet board, is about as productive as watching Oprah or Dr Phil. I believe passionately about a lot of the topics discussed here but why should I argue about it here? What possibly could it help?

I'm still laughing from the special olympics pic...

To Doug: Quit complaining about the athiests. Stop limiting the stuff that can go up on this site. No one's gonna get that offended. Sh*t, you let bill105 post some bigoted stuff (raghead comment) but we can't even type sh*t?!?!

To Dale: Hope that your x-mas without your sis is good. I still think of you. (Okay, not a grievance, get off my back!)

To all of the posters who have alternate screen names. That's weak. Just post under one for chrissake. It's getting a little harder to figure out who the pseudonyms really are. How'z about Doug not letting that happen????

To eyebob: Stop taking the posts so seriously. Good lord you must have better things to do.

To Sintesi: You irritate me. You don't post anymore.

To Mohair: You piss me off because for some reason, your screen name reminds me of the REM song "Hairshirt" (it's a long compicated connection) which is a song that reminds me of a gal I once knew. Damn you.

To Festivus: For not being around more often so that I can air my grievances.

Still around believe it or not. I can't log on from work anymore and my nights had been busy. Sort of lost the plot.... Still the same feisty crew I see.

Still I do check in now and again. Next year I'm looking forward to the Bush / Anti-Bush fight of 2004 from this crowd - should be LOADS OF FUN. I learn a lot from you folks.

Merry Christmas / Hannuka / Kwanzaa / Whatever-Solstice-fest to all!!
