Apple iPod - anyone use this with Windows?(6 posts)

Apple iPod - anyone use this with Windows?Fez

My computer recognizes the iPod and even creates an E:\ drive, but the display on the iPod has an error message that only reads "Do not disconnect." Resetting the device doesn't help.

Cannot get transfer any music from My Library to the iPod.

Went to the Apple support site and its full of people with the same error message but no solution.

Tried it with Musicmatch Jukebox 7.5 (came w/ CD) and iTunes4 download from Apple.

assuming you have the minimum software and hardware reqs for the Ipod, I'd remove the software then reinstall it. See if that helps.

Computer more than meets the requirements. PC has XP and Firewire. Already removed and reinstalled software.

Beginning to think mine was DOA and I should exchange it, but so many others have reported the same problems when using it with a Windows PC.

Like I said earlier, my PC recognizes the iPod, but the iPod constantly has an error message "do not disconnect" and won't allow any song transfers.

If not too much of a hassle get another one. If you have the same problem then you'll know it probably isn't a defective player. Did you check the apple site for the latest software/drivers? sometimes what ships is not the most recent. it sounds like it might be some kind of conflict going on with another drive.

My problem is circular. Every time I plug the iPod into my computer, there is a message that the iPod has to be "restored." After you restore the iPod (basically a reset and reformat of the drive), you have to plug it into the wall to update the iPod firmware. Then when you plug the iPod back into the computer you get the same message about it needing to be restored.

I'll try another one.

Can you imagine what a nightmare this would be like if this was bought on eBay?
