Divorce Rate - higher for dinks?Fez

That is, dual income, no kids.

Grossly simplifying, but does having no kids and a career make each spouse self sufficient enough so that its easier to divorce and not work harder at staying together?
Less tug of war ropes, that's for sure... nmNo_sprint

People (with and without kids) get divorced for a myriad of reasons. A better question would be, are the divorces less messy (financially and emotionally) for DINKS. I'd say yes.

Kids and less income (i.e., going from two incomes to one or just having to make two incomes pay for the spouses and the kids) both put stresses on a marriage that dinks don't have. I have seen enough improbable marriages survive all kinds of problems and seemingly perfect ones fall apart for what appears to be no good reason at all that I think that it is hard to generalize why some people divorce and others don't. But, based on my own experience (one marriage of 16 years -- still together), I think that marriage with a double income no kids would have been easier than a marriage with kids. I love my kids and would not trade them in for the world, but I also can say that most of our disputes since our oldest daughter was born 14 years ago have had some relationship to our children.
