Here's a question for you, Doug ...sacheson

My wife and I are expecting our first in January. We've been looking at baby names as well. One of Amanda's friends has her convinced to not settle on a name until the child is born, becuase the parents don't know what name will fit the child until they see it.

Now, I ask you - someone who is already a dad - aside from the gender, how much truth is in this comment? I can't see it ... but I also know I'm pretty naive in the baby category.
Now is the timeColnagoFE

I think now is the time to think of names. You'll throw most of them out because they remind you or your wife of someone you couldn't stand in high school. You'll throw others out because you can imagine the nasty names kids can make out of them. I know you always hear how cute babies are, but IMO babies all look like aliens for a while anyway and don't really have any distinctive personality until they get a bit older.

When I first saw Luke, he was bright red, purple feet, blood all over him, peeing on the nurses, and screaming. I was very excited about the whole process. My wife, after 2 days of being induced and then drugged for a C-section, couldn't even think for about a day. Bottom line, we were in no position to come up with a name then.

I'd sure as heck want to pick it out in advance. Aside from it just being my personality, to plan ahead, I can't imagine coming up with a suitable name just by looking at the little one. Do what the two of you want. Ignore everyone else.

we have a couple of names ...sacheson

... I just thought the waiting until we see him is a little odd.

You suggest doing what we want - that'd be great if we agreed on what to do!

I think I'm going to play along with her for now (afterall, she's the one carrying him). If she chooses any of the 3 names the two of us have already discussed, we're good ... if she chooses some epiderally induced obscure name, then we might have an issue.

His nickname in the womb is Beloki. I'm not sure I want that one to be on his birth certificate.

Later.

BTW, Luke is a great name. If we didn't already have a Luke close to us, that would be high on the list.
Luke was "Thor" before born nmDougSloan

Some of those are hysterical. Patsy Ann is my favorite. I'd have changed it even if I didn't become famous. Some parents are just cruel. She does kinda have that West Virginia mountain look to her, doesn't she?
tommy flanagan says...rufus

Damn shame that didn't protect his lungs. He'll always be the crazed cowboy robot in Westworld to me, though.

Sid Vicious isn't vicious?? Peter Marshall didn't like his last name..."La Cock"??

If Omar Shariff was getting into the business today, he would have kept his real name.

Nobody could have a name that cool. Or Casper Weinberger for that matter, but in reverse.
