Sound recording question for the musically savy.Kristin

I need to do a little recording for a project I'm working on. It doesn't need to be high quality and I want to do the recording on my PC so that I can burn it to CD. I have a $20 PCI sound card, which should suffice for my needs. But I have no microphone for the PC. I do, however, own a D/N professional performance mic (mike, mice??) and a 1/2" to 1/8" converter for it. So I can physically plug the mic into the sound card, but will I damage my sound card?

I'm guessing the mike has a 1/4" connector, but it should be fine. With microphones, you're dealing with microvolts, so there's no way you can do any damage. Plug other equipment into the card and you may run into problems.

LOL. A half inch jack would be a fat jack indeed. Thanks for the info. One of these days, I'm going to have to learn the other side of the boards. The extent of my technical knowledge is how to signal the sound guy.
